Developers of eVTOL Aircraft Resist the Safety Case for Parachutes
Parachutes can be deployed in seconds to allow aircraft to make a safe, soft landing if major systems like propulsion and flight controls fail, but are they suitable for new vertical takeoff and landing vehicles operating at low altitudes?
Whole-aircraft parachutes are being developed for fixed-wing designs like Bye Aerospace's eFlyer 2 (right above).
Bye Aerospace's new eFlyer electric aircraft (above right) is set to feature a ballistic parachute that would deploy in the event of a major system failure, but developers of many new eVTOL aircraft like Jaunt (above left) do not accept the safety case for the technology.
